In Loving Memory of Mr.Charley Lyons

Charley was loved by many and there are no words to adequately describe what a void his passing will create. BCHS/BCSD has lost a man who touched the lives of so many students and was not only a colleague and positive influence for so many students through the years, he was also a personal friend to many at BCHS and throughout the district as well as the community.

“Charley had a passion for his students and was quoted recently as saying ‘All kids deserve someone to go the extra mile for them.”

The Fight for Public Education, Bath County Schools will be closed Friday, April 13, 2018

Dear Parents,

Tomorrow, April 13, our school district will be closed.

We realize that when school is closed it can cause disruption in daily schedules and hardships for everyone. We not only hope to have your understanding in why we have closed, but we also need you to help advocate for your child.  WE NEED YOU to join with us in a fight for public education!

What is at stake is a complex issue.  It would be impossible to condense it all to one short, concise page.  Therefore, I want to make a few points and clarify some misconceptions as to why we are canceling school tomorrow.

  1. Teachers ARE NOT asking for a raise.
  2. Teachers ARE NOT fighting for a pension; (that bill has already passed).
  3.  We need for the Senate and House to OVERRIDE the Governor’s veto of HB200 (budget/school funding), HB 366 (revenue/tax reform) and SB362 (CERS contribution phase in).
  4. We need EVERYONE to contact legislators.

Bath County Board Appreciation

board members

We are hearing a lot lately from school boards who have stepped up and made a case both locally and statewide for both restoring and increasing funding for schools.

So many different kinds of groups make money pitches for so many causes that the temptation may be to lump these school boards in with the rest. But that’s not where they should be. When members of the Bath County school board advocate for better funding, they are doing it for the children of this community: for the up-to-date books they need for their classes, for the after-school programs that help struggling readers, for new school buses to safely transport them, for buildings that offer the physical settings needed to learn, for course offerings and technology that will enable them to graduate to a career or go on to postsecondary education, and on and on.
